It reacts with an electron donor such as trifluoroacetic acid to form a reactive intermediate, which then reacts with an α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) to inhibit its function. This leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine at synapses, which may be responsible for the anti-inflammatory properties of this drug. Methyl chlorodifluoroacetate also has anti-infective properties, and can be used to treat infectious diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, or protozoa.
