Methyltriphenylphosphonium Iodide is a fluorescent compound used in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to monitor the transport of glucose across the mitochondrial membrane. It is also used as an inhibitor for quinoline derivatives, which are often used as anticancer agents. Methyltriphenylphosphonium Iodide has been shown to inhibit glucose transport by inhibiting the enzyme hexokinase, which catalyzes the conversion of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate. In addition, this molecule binds to the amide region of its receptor and blocks the binding site for ATP, preventing phosphorylation reactions that regulate ion channels and neurotransmitter release.
