This molecule is an intermediate in the dehydration reaction catalyzed by lipase, and it can also be used to synthesize cyclopentenones and dienones. The crystal structure of 7-methoxy-1-indanone has been determined using single crystal x ray diffraction, which revealed that the molecule has a bicyclic structure with an annulene core. The grignard reagent reacts with 7-methoxy-1 indanone to produce a diketone and a cyclopentenone. The optical properties of this substance are unknown.
