p-Nitrobenzyl chloroformate is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with an electrophile to form a new carbon-nitrogen bond. It is used as a reagent for the synthesis of amides and esters, for the introduction of nitro groups into molecules, and for the preparation of nitroso compounds. p-Nitrobenzyl chloroformate has been shown to have synergistic interactions with glycol chitosan nanoparticles in cancer therapy. These nanoparticles are biocompatible polymers that can be loaded with anticancer drugs. The mechanism by which this combination works is not yet fully understood but it has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
