5-Nitro-2,6-dioxo-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid (NTDPA) is an organic compound that is used as a precursor to other compounds. NTDPA is a stable complex with potassium ions and hydroxide solution. It reacts with water molecules in the presence of an electron donor such as n-dimethyl formamide to produce nitrite and carbon dioxide. NTDPA has been shown to be toxic to aquatic organisms at pH values greater than 8.5. This compound can cause symptoms such as severe headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, and skin rash in humans after prolonged exposure. It may also cause autoimmune diseases in animals and humans when exposed over a long period of time.
