2-Nitrochalcone is an antiviral drug that can be used to treat influenza virus infections. It acts by inhibiting the virus's replication and release of new viruses. 2-Nitrochalcone has been shown to have a high degree of resistance in laboratory tests, which means it is not easily broken down by the body's enzymes. When 2-Nitrochalcone is exposed to light, it releases nitric oxide radicals, which kill the influenza virus. The virus must be near the surface of the cell membrane for this process to occur. 2-Nitrochalcone also inhibits the production of cyclooxygenase, which is an enzyme that produces prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that cause inflammation and pain in response to injury or infection.
2-Nitrochalcone has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain strains of influenza A, such as H1N1 and H3N2 strains.
