Neurodyerh-421 binds to the cell membrane of bacteria and forms an ion channel, causing an influx of sodium ions. This influx leads to the disruption of the membrane potential and eventual cell death. Neurodyerh-421 has also been found to have transport properties that can be modified with sugar residues or by adding ouabain binding compounds.
