5-Nitro-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione is a synthetic organic compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses. It is an inhibitor of the gene product that regulates the activity of insulin receptors in fat cells. This molecule has also been used as a fluorescence probe for studying viral RNA. 5-Nitro-2,3-dithydrophthalazine-1,4-dione is soluble in alcohols and other organic solvents and can be dissolved in silicon oil. It can be used to fabricate devices such as ion pumps that are used in biological applications.
