Nicotinic acid sodium salt is a form of nicotinic acid that is more soluble than the other forms of this vitamin. It is used as a nutritional supplement, and also as an additive in foods and beverages. Nicotinic acid sodium salt can be used to treat symptoms of calcium deficiency, such as muscle cramps, or to prevent and treat pellagra, a disease caused by niacin deficiency. This compound is also used in wastewater treatment to remove organic matter. The drug has been shown to have positive effects on the heart after myocardial infarcts. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis in the epididymal adipose tissue of rats.
