Nonacosanoic acid has been shown to inhibit colorectal carcinoma by suppressing the growth of tumor cells. This compound also induces neurodevelopmental changes in wild-type mice, such as changes in brain weight, behavior, and neurotransmitter levels. Nonacosanoic acid has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer.
