N-Boc-4-piperidineacetaldehyde is a chiral, stable, and readily available aldehyde. It has been used in the synthesis of various biologically active molecules including imidazolidinones, which are important for their use as catalysts in organic chemistry. The synthesis of this molecule by the condensation of 4-piperidineacetic acid with acetaldehyde followed by reduction with sodium borohydride is an example of this type of reaction.
