It is an inhibitor of human serum albumin, with a high affinity for the hydroxyl group on the protein's surface. 1NS has been shown to have anti-cancer activity against malignant brain tumors in mice, and also inhibits HIV replication by inhibiting the function of the enzyme reverse transcriptase. 1NS has been shown to inhibit toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which may be related to its immunomodulatory effects.
