5-Nitroisophthalic acid is a chemical pesticide that is used to control the growth of fungi, bacteria and weeds. It is synthesized by reacting sodium carbonate with nitric acid. 5-Nitroisophthalic acid can be used as an intermediate in the production of copper complexes, which are used as herbicides or fungicides. The structure of this chemical compound has been determined using thermodynamic data and structural analysis. It has a carboxylate group and contains nitrogen atoms in its basic structure. 5-Nitroisophthalic acid can be hydrolyzed to picolinic acid or fatty acid.
