• Descrizione: 8-Iodo-6-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (8MIAP) is an antitrypanosomal agent that binds to the enzyme trypanothione reductase. 8MIAP inhibits the production of glutathione, a vital molecule in cell function. This inhibition causes oxidative damage to the cell and leads to cell death. The cytotoxic activity of 8MIAP has been investigated using several different experimental models, including epimastigotes, n-oxide, and analogues. The inhibitory dose for 8MIAP is between 1 and 10 μM. Structurally related drugs such as benzo[a]pyrene have also been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro and in vivo.END>
