Descrizione:1,7-Octadiene is a reactive hydrocarbon that undergoes metathesis reactions. It reacts with phosphotungstic acid to produce a mixture of products, including hydroxylated aromatic compounds. This reaction is catalyzed by mineral acids and bases and proceeds through an intermediate carbonyl group. The reaction mechanism for this reaction has been studied through kinetic studies and it has been determined that the rate of the reaction increases with temperature. 1,7-Octadiene also reacts with hydrogen to form unsaturated alkyl compounds in a similar manner as olefins. When exposed to UV light, 1,7-octadiene produces dichlorocarbene as a product. This compound can be used to synthesize new organic compounds in a cell culture system and may have applications in immunoglobulin production.
