Descrizione:1,2-Octanediol is a glycol ether preservative that is used in the formulation of skin care products. It is also an effective antimicrobial agent for use in products that are acidic or that contain a nutrient solution. 1,2-Octanediol has been shown to inhibit microbial growth by disrupting the cell membrane and denaturing proteins. It has been reported as an oxidation catalyst for applications such as constant pressure and α subunit reactions. 1,2-Octanediol is soluble in water and alcohols and can be synthesized from octanol and formaldehyde. This compound has a particle size of greater than 10 micrometers with an acid number between 1 and 2. The analytical method for determining the purity of this product involves measuring the percentage of octane diol after it has been extracted three times with petroleum ether at different temperatures.
