9(Z),11(Z)-Octadecadienoic Acid is a fatty acid ester of hippuric acid that is found in the human diet. It is produced by oxidation of n-3 fatty acids and has been shown to have active substances. 9,11-Octadecadienoic acid can be found as the geometric isomer or the stereoisomer, with the former being more prevalent in nature. The stereoisomer may be converted to the geometric isomer through radiation or chemical reactions. 9,11-Octadecadienoic Acid can also be found as an oxidation product of other fatty acids. It has low bioavailability and a high reactivity with oxygen radicals. Fatty acids are important for human health because they are used in cell membranes and serve as precursors for certain prostaglandins.
