1-Octadecylamine is a chemical compound that can be used as a raw material for the synthesis of colloidal gold. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity and hypoglycemic effects, and is also used in the preparation of liposomes. 1-Octadecylamine is a component of polymer compositions that are used in the treatment of bowel disease. It has been shown to increase water vapor permeability and has an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy profile with a rate constant of 0.4 s−1. It also shows significant antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Clostridium difficile, but not against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
