5-Octafluoropentanoic acid (5H-PFA) is a chloroformate that reacts with carboxylic acids to form esters. 5H-PFA has a low detection limit and can be used to detect inorganic substances. It also has constant boiling point and high boiling point, so it can be used for hydroxybenzaldehydes, chromatographic, or thermally reactive functional groups. As a reactive functional group, 5H-PFA reacts with other chemicals to form reaction products. 5H-PFA is also reactive because of its chemical ionization properties. 5H-PFA is an intermediate in the reaction of fluorine and alcohols.
