Primisulfuron-methyl is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, enzymes involved in the production of inflammatory prostaglandins. Primisulfuron-methyl has been shown to be effective in treating pain and inflammation in children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been shown to be beneficial for patients with acute kidney injury due to its inhibition of renal tubular epithelial cell death. Primisulfuron-methyl is metabolized through two pathways: sulfoxide formation and oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes. This drug may be used as a fluorescent probe for detection of DNA polymerase activity or optical sensor for monitoring protein synthesis. The use of this drug as an analytical method is limited due to its low solubility in organic solvents.
