N-Pyridin-3-ylacetamide is a synthetic molecule that can be used as a ligand. It has been studied by x-ray crystallography and is known to have a conformation with one of the imidazole rings tilted out of the plane of the molecule. The other imidazole ring is in the plane, but with its nitrogen atom pointing away from the other imidazole ring. This conformation may be useful for supramolecular chemistry, which studies interactions between molecules. N-Pyridin-3-ylacetamide also has acid hydrazide groups that can be used to form covalent bonds with electron rich molecules such as metal ions or organic compounds.
