Potassium hexadecyl hydrogenphosphate is a cell-adsorption agent that is used to treat skin cancer and other diseases. It has been shown to have the ability to adsorb onto the surface of skin cells, where it interacts with fatty acids and glycol esters, forming an insoluble polymer. This polymer is then removed by washing with a solvent such as ethylene diamine or hydrochloric acid. The film-forming properties of this drug allow it to be used in pharmaceutical preparations such as ointments or creams.
