Descrizione:Paroxetine is a drug belonging to the class of tricyclic antidepressants. It is used as a treatment for depression, anxiety, and other conditions. The drug inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in the brain by blocking the activity of serotonin transporters (SERTs). Paroxetine has been shown to lower intracellular calcium levels and inhibit locomotor activity in rats. In combination with interferon alfa-2b, paroxetine has shown promising results for cancer treatment. The side-effect profiles are generally mild; however, paroxetine can cause cardiac effects and metabolic disorders, such as weight gain and hypoglycemia. It also interacts with other drugs that increase or decrease its metabolism such as cytochrome P450 enzymes and CYP2D6 inhibitors, which may lead to an increased risk of adverse effects.
