The intramolecular hydrogen bond formed between the hydroxyl group and the carbonyl carbon atom is important in the stability and reactivity of this molecule. 4-Penten-1-ol can be found in biological samples such as plasma, urine, and saliva. This molecule is used as a marker for uptake by fatty acids.
