Descrizione:4-Phenanthrol is a synthetic compound that is used as an analytical reagent for the detection of α subunit in bacteriophages. It has been shown to have no genotoxic effects in liver and kidney cells, but can increase the glomerular filtration rate and induce body mass index (BMI) reduction in rodents. In female mice, chronic oral administration of 4-phenanthrol showed no toxic effects on liver or kidney function and did not cause DNA damage. The mechanism of action is not known, but it may inhibit enzymes involved in the synthesis of nucleic acids such as RNA and DNA.
