Phenylglycinol is a chiral molecule that binds selectively to epidermal growth factor (EGF) and inhibits its activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in culture, which may be due to its ability to bind EGF and prevent the binding of EGF-receptor complexes. Phenylglycinol is an enantiopure compound that has been synthesized using a chromatographic method with detection sensitivity. The isolated yield of phenylglycinol is approximately 50%.
