• Descrizione: (S)-2-Pyridylthio cysteamine hydrochloride is a cell-permeant, basic, thiol-containing compound that is currently being investigated as an anticancer agent. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. This drug binds to the disulfide bonds of proteins, which leads to the formation of a stable covalent bond between two protein molecules. (S)-2-Pyridylthio cysteamine hydrochloride also inhibits cell proliferation by interfering with the production of epidermal growth factor. This drug can be used for cancer treatment by binding to the mitochondria and inhibiting ATP synthesis, leading to apoptosis. The uptake of this drug is dependent on its interaction with basic proteins in the plasma membrane, which may be due to its ability to induce epidermal growth factor (EGF) production in cultured cells.
