Pentadecylamine is a reactive, pharmaceutically active compound with a phase transition temperature of -9.1°C and a melting point of -2.6°C. It has the chemical formula CH3(CH2)14N and is soluble in water and ethanol. Pentadecylamine is an amine that can react with polycarboxylic acids to form esters, carbonyls to form imines, or amides to form amides. The pH optimum for pentadecylamine is acidic at 2, while its viscosity is low at 0.5 cP at 25°C and high at 10,000 cP at 1°C. Pentadecylamine can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs such as phenylacetic acid derivatives and other esters, carboxylates, amides, or unsaturated alkyl fatty acids.
