Descrizione:Phytosterols are a group of plant-derived sterols that have been shown to have cholesterol-lowering activity in humans. The cholesterol-lowering effect is due to the ability of phytosterols to bind with cholesterol receptors and inhibit the absorption of dietary cholesterol. Phytosterols are absorbed from the small intestine into the blood, where they are converted into bile acids and eliminated in stool. Phytosterols also have anti-inflammatory properties, which is thought to be due to their ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
