Descrizione

DL-Pantolactone is a lactone that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations. It is synthesized from sodium carbonate and calcium pantothenate, which are both readily available and inexpensive. DL-Pantolactone has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in Corynebacterium glutamicum, F. proliferatum, and E. coli K-12. DL-Pantolactone also improves the effectiveness of wastewater treatment by removing organic compounds and inhibiting bacterial growth. In addition, DL-pantolactone contains a hydroxyl group that can form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with other molecules. The sequence of DL-pantolactone has not been determined yet but may be found using methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance or infrared spectroscopy.
