This compound also inhibits the growth of human cervical carcinoma cells by binding to their DNA and inhibiting the synthesis of RNA and protein. 1,10-Phenanthroline-2-carbaldehyde is being studied for its potential as an inhibitor of tumor angiogenesis.1,10-Phenanthroline-2-carbaldehyde has been shown to have antiplatelet aggregation effects in platelets from healthy humans as well as those with type 2 diabetes mellitus or chronic kidney disease.
