It is used in the treatment of hepatitis and microbial infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Propargylamine hydrochloride also has anti-inflammatory properties that are mediated by its ability to inhibit neutrophil chemotaxis. This drug binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential and causes a collapse in this membrane potential, which can lead to cell death. The mechanism of action of propargylamine hydrochloride is through competitive inhibition of ATP synthesis at the mitochondrial level.
