Perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUA) is a fatty acid that is found in the blood of humans and other mammals. PFUA has been shown to be toxic to the liver, kidneys, and lungs in mice. PFUA can also cause weight gain in mice. PFUA has been shown to be stable when exposed to sunlight and water but degrades when heated or mixed with other solvents. The chemical stability of PFUA makes it a good candidate for wastewater treatment as well as for use in biomedical applications such as blood sampling.
