It is a small molecule with a molecular weight of 134.17 and can be found in wastewater treatment plants as well as in food products such as meat, cheese, and milk. 2-Phenoxypropionic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by causing the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential. This particular antibiotic also has an effect on fatty acids that are linked to α1-acid glycoprotein, which may lead to its role in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
