It has a polymorphic nature that can be used to prepare samples for microscopy. 10,12-Pentacosadiyn-1-ol is activated by light and has been shown to inhibit the growth of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. It also has been shown to bind to vinyl alcohol and herringbone polymers. The chemical crosslinking process can be used to synthesize crystalline structures of 10,12-pentacosadiyn-1-ol with inorganic materials such as metals and semiconductors. 10,12-Pentacosadiyn-1-ol is soluble in water and has been shown to have muscle relaxant properties as well as antihypertensive effects.
