The morphology and optical properties of 3-phenylthiophene films are dependent on the concentration of monomer and temperature. It has a polarizability of 0.65 D, which can be analyzed using nmr spectra at room temperature. 3-Phenylthiophene has been used as an analytical method for β-unsaturated ketones, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and vibrational analysis.
