Descrizione

Pseudohypericin is a natural product that belongs to the group of anthraquinone derivatives. It is the major component of Hypericum perforatum, commonly known as St. John's Wort. Pseudohypericin has been shown to have pharmacological activities including antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects. The mechanism of action for pseudohypericin has not been fully elucidated but it is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of drug-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450, which may lead to drug interactions. The synthesis of pseudohypericin involves a number of steps including polymerase chain reaction and chromatographic analysis. Some acute toxicities have been observed in animal studies with pseudohypericin, such as bowel disease and death from liver failure.
