6-Prenylnaringenin is a flavonoid found in many plants, such as citrus fruit, and has been shown to have various biological effects. It has been shown to lower the level of LDL cholesterol in women and inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells. 6-Prenylnaringenin is not well absorbed by humans, with only about 0.3% of an oral dose being absorbed. This low bioavailability may be due to its high molecular weight or its metabolism by CYP450 enzymes. The pharmacokinetic properties of 6-prenylnaringenin are different in males and females, which may be due to differences in sex hormones or enzyme activity levels.
