- Protopanaxdiol
Protopanaxadiol is a prodrug that has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is converted to protopanaxatriol, which inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the activation of NF-κB, thereby preventing oxidative injury. Protopanaxadiol also increases the mitochondrial membrane potential in cells by inhibiting P-glycoprotein and stabilizing the mitochondrial membrane potential. This drug also induces caspase-independent cell death in human prostate cancer cells by targeting signal pathways such as MAPK/ERK signaling.
