Pentafluorothiobenzene is an organic solvent used as a synthetic intermediate in the production of other compounds. It is also used as a solvent for various organic reactions, and can be used to remove chlorine from hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents. The reaction of pentafluorothiobenzene with hydroxylamine produces a trifluoromethyl group, which reacts with carbonyl groups to give infarction products. Pentafluorothiobenzene has been shown to affect cardiac function by causing arrhythmia and infarction. As an organic solvent, it has been shown to have parasiticidal activity against insects and mites. Pentafluorothiobenzene also has diagnostic properties that are used in the detection of functional groups in organic molecules.
