• Descrizione: Remifentanil is a potent opioid analgesic that is used for anesthesia. It is an ester of 4-(methoxycarbonyl)-4-[(1-oxopropyl)phenylamino]-1-piperidinepropanoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride and has a rapid onset, short duration of action, and low potential for accumulation. Remifentanil binds to the μ-opioid receptor in the brain, spinal cord, and gastrointestinal tract. This binding leads to inhibition of neurotransmitter release from presynaptic neurons and hyperpolarization of postsynaptic neurons. Remifentanil has been shown to produce less respiratory depression than morphine when given by intubation. It also has been shown to increase systolic blood pressure in humans but not in animals.
