It is an analytical chemistry reagent for the determination of fluorine, hydrochloric acid, and syncytial virus infection. Rhodium octanoate dimer is also used as an inhibitor in the synthesis of aminopyridine and carbapenem. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
