Descrizione:Sodium oxide is an inorganic compound that is a white, odorless solid. It reacts with water to produce heat and hydrogen gas. Sodium oxide is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of polyethylene and other plastics. The reaction mechanism is believed to be initiated by the formation of a zirconium-hydroxide species, which then decomposes to form sodium metal and oxygen gas. In plants, sodium oxide is involved in the metabolism of methyl ethyl and phosphorus pentoxide. Sodium oxide has high resistance to radiation, acids, bases, and solvents because it is an oxide. It also has high stability under extreme conditions such as laser ablation or exposure to radiation.
