Squalene is a polyunsaturated hydrocarbon that is found in the human body and is synthesized by the liver. Squalene has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be effective against oxidative injury. It also has a hypoglycemic effect, which may be due to its inhibition of glucose oxidation. Squalene can act as an inhibitor for certain enzymes, including epoxidase activity, and it also binds to transcriptional regulators.
