Descrizione

Sesamin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of lignans. It is a sesquiterpene that can be found in sesame oil, with the highest concentration found in sesame seeds. Sesamin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for the treatment of chronic cough. The mechanism by which it generates this effect is not clear but may involve inhibition of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling or suppression of NF-κB activation. Sesamin also has antioxidant properties and has been shown to inhibit protein oxidation in vitro. It can reduce injury caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Sesamin has also been shown to improve the rate constant for DNA polymerase activity, which leads to increased DNA synthesis. This effect was observed in cells treated with hydrogen peroxide, a chemical that causes oxidative damage.
