Acid Red 1 is an optical sensor that produces a change in color when it reacts with a substance. It also has fixative properties and is used to preserve biological samples. Acid Red 1 is typically made up of two components: one that absorbs light at 660 nm and another that absorbs light at 780 nm. The rate constant for the reaction between Acid Red 1 and the substance is proportional to the concentration of the substance. Acid Red 1 has been shown to have synergistic effects when combined with other dyes, such as Sudan III.
