The mechanism of the reaction is reductive elimination, which involves the removal of an electron from the substrate by a reducing agent to form a carbonyl compound. (S)-SIPHOS-PE has been shown to be able to label compounds with high efficiency and selectivity. This ligand was also used for asymmetric synthesis of alkene and aldehyde derivatives using halides, diazo compounds, and salicylaldehyde as reactants.(S)-SIPHOS-PE is a chiral octaketide that can be prepared from salicylaldehyde and halides in the presence of diazo compounds. It is also possible to synthesize this compound from an alkene or an aldehyde in the presence of catalytic amounts of cyclic or aromatic hydrocarbons.
