• Descrizione: The enzyme cysteine dioxygenase catalyzes the oxidation of cysteine to form sulfinic acid and thiocyanate. The reaction is accompanied by the release of an electron from NADH, which is subsequently used in the reduction of nitrate to nitrite. The enzyme has regulatory effects on the level of nitrate that is present in cells. It has been found that sodium thiophosphate hydrate can inhibit this enzyme and prevent the release of electrons, thereby preventing bacterial growth.
