Descrizione

Silica gel is a porous, inorganic compound that has been used to adsorb water from biological samples. It has been utilized for the separation of peptide hormones and for the preparation of nutrient solutions. Silica gel also has been used as a support material in biochemical assays and as a component in experiments involving thermal expansion and chemical stability. The solubility data for silica gel is limited, but it is known that the solubility of this substance increases when it is heated or exposed to an acidic environment. Silica gel is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone, which makes it ideal for use with liquid chromatography or gas chromatography.
