Sodium 2-ethylhexaneate is a chemical with the formula C5H11O2Na. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in methanol and ethanol, but not water. The compound is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, such as amoxicillin sodium, which are used to treat bacterial infections. In this process, it reacts with diethylamine salt to form the corresponding amine which then undergoes reductive amination with sodium carbonate. Sodium 2-ethylhexanoate has been found to be stable at neutral pH and at room temperature in the presence of carboxylic acids, esters, and amines.
